Dee Nickerson, a current member of HWAT, has a new solo exhibition of figurative paintings at the Cork Bricks Gallery in Bungay, Suffolk, during the month of October 2009.

Dee’s paintings are colourful, lyrical and nostalgic, often featuring women and animals in rural settings, exploring gentle narratives on country life.  Dee’s work revels in the visual exploration of patterns, both in fabrics and the natural environment: in one painting, a background of falling leaves is echoed in the drapery of the woman’s skirt. Dee already has many collectors of her work in the Eastern region, and this new show, as the crowd at the private view testified, shows that her work will continue to have wide appeal.

Dee says of her work:
If I was a writer my work would probably be described as fiction, semi biographical and poetical. Using chalk pastels or acrylics, both of which allow layering of pattern and colour, I make pictures describing moments in mine and other peoples lives. The settings are chosen to help create the mood. I am very much looking forward to holding my first solo show at the Cork Brick Gallery in Bungay in October this year. New paintings show my usual women and some landscapes inspired by sketches made at Salthouse, north Norfolk, a landscape very different from the Waveney Valley. 'The Potter and her Cat' was a commission for the Cambridge potter Inga Diener.  'Across the fields' is a nostalgic painting; I was reminded of a previous summer when there were many butterflies.

Dee’s solo exhibition at the Cork Bricks Gallery is open Tuesday - Saturday 11am to 5.30pm, and runs until 28th October 2009.
